Toyota GB recalls 12,000 iQ city cars

Toyota is recalling 12,000 iQ city cars in the UK because of a potential problem with the steering.

It is part of a global recall of 136,000 iQ and Passo cars instigated by Toyota when it became aware that sensors in the iQ could malfunction when driving over bumps, making the steering heavier.

Toyota GB said it is working with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) to contact registered owners and keepers by letter to advise them of the procedure for taking their vehicle to an authorised Toyota repairer for the necessary repair work to be done.

The issue affects iQ vehicles produced between 11 September 2008 and 22 October 2010.

Toyota said the issue had been observed in very specific circumstances in Japan. No cases have been reported in Europe and no accidents related to this issue have been reported.

The repair involves the update or replacement of the EPS control unit software, which takes two hours to complete.
