The 2014 Motor Trader Top 50 Independent Dealers throws into sharp relief a sector dominated by the large car supermarkets with Motorpoint and Carcraft taking on an increasingly national presence.
Heading up this year’s increasingly polarised Motor Trader Top 50, for the first time since 2010, is West London’s Car Giant with turnover up over £91.3m to £396m.
Its achievements as a single-site business are all the more impressive as it now outsells last year’s top placed Motorpoint, a high profile business which operates across seven sites.
Motorpoint had turnover of £362m followed by The Car Shop (£193m), Available Car (£156m) and in fifth slot The Car People (£135m)
This year’s top 10 turnover companies saw a number of changes with Available Car moving up from 6 to 4, and Big Motoring World became the new tenth placed business, rising from 15 in last year’s survey.
Elsewhere, Imperial Cars of Swanwick is among the more notable movers.
