The 2015 Motor Trader Top 200 Franchised Dealers finds the franchised dealer sector in rude health with the top 12 groups each turning over in excess of £1bn for the first time in the survey’s history.
The Motor Trader Top 200 is the biggest survey of its type and is used by dealer groups across the UK to benchmark their performances by turnover and profitability.
The combined turnover of the Motor Trader Top 200 was £56.4bn, an increase of £4bn over the previous year with 12 groups making their debut in the survey. The entry level for the survey is unchanged at £29m.
As the sector’s consolidation continues the Motor Trader Top 200 reaped the benefits of a strong new car market, albeit heavily subsidised by manufacturer sponsored PCP finance, increasing demand for good quality used cars and high levels of workshop utilisation. The average Return on Sales for dealer groups was 1.35%.
