Ex-CarShop CEO Jonathan Dunkley joins Cazoo as adviser

Cazoo has appointed Jonathan Dunkley, ex-CEO of CarShop and ex-Sytner group board member, as senior strategic adviser.

Dunkley was CEO of Sytner’s car supermarket division where he oversaw a team of over 1,600 across nine UK retail outlets with revenues approaching £1bn. Prior to this he held several senior positions at CarShop.

He will now work with the existing operating and commercial teams at Cazoo, including COO Paul Whitehead, to focus on car buying, reconditioning and growing revenues.

Dunkley will share his time between Cazoo and his other role as co-managing partner for equity firm, Camden Ventures.

Camden Ventures is a property and investment company. Historically, it is part of the Camden Motor group of companies with a record of building up and selling automotive businesses, including Car Shops, which was sold to Sytner in 2017.

It also sold Allen Ford  in December 2014 to the South African listed company Supergroup and Camden Corporate Fleet Services in September 2007 to Barclays Private Equity.

Cazoo has sold over 35,000 cars in the UK since its launch two years ago. It recently launched a monthly car subscription service for new cars and is gearing up to launch the Cazoo model in France and Germany later this year.

Alex Chesterman OBE, founder and CEO of Cazoo said, “We are delighted to have Jonathan as part of our team.

“His experience from running the UK’s largest car supermarket business will be invaluable as we continue to deliver on our mission of providing the best car buying and selling experience for consumers across the UK and Europe.”

Jonathan Dunkley said, “I’m very much looking forward to working with Alex, Paul and the team. Cazoo has achieved phenomenal growth already but are only just getting started.
