Arnold Clark to represent Chinese EV brand BYD in Scotland

Arnold Clark is to represent Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD early next year.

The partnership will mark another step forward in the UK’s shift towards EVs and reinforce Arnold Clark’s commitment to achieving a net zero carbon future.

The group will open a new retail space dedicated to BYD in Glasgow early 2023.  This will be used as a base before expanding out with further locations as volumes rise.

BYD will make its Scottish debut with the launch of one model – the ATTO 3 – with more to follow.

Eddie Hawthorne, group managing director and chief executive, said: ‘We’re delighted to announce our partnership with BYD as their sole Scottish electric vehicle retailer.

‘As we move to the future, it’s important that we continue to embrace new technology and diversify our portfolio so we can provide our customers with the best products the market has to offer.

“Having established themselves as one of the industry’s leading manufacturers when it comes to electric vehicles and new technology, this partnership with BYD will help to drive our own electric strategy and reinforce Arnold Clark as the place to go for alternative fuel vehicles.

“With plans set to take shape early next year, we look forward to an exciting journey ahead.”

Gary Murphy, franchise manager of BYD, said: ‘With more and more motorists choosing to go electric, BYD’s expansion in the UK comes at a crucial time.

“As a premium electric vehicle manufacturer, we look forward to working together to grow the brand’s presence in Scotland and to use their expertise to enhance our own electric vehicle strategy.”
