Auction house BCA has reported strong demand in the luxury and supercar sectors.
The highest price achieved by BCA last year was for a 2009-registered Lamborghini Murcielago Superveloce that realised £245,000. Second highest was a 2016 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Saloon that sold for £210,000.
A 2016 Lamborghini Huracan Spyder made £176,000, a 2013-registered Ferrari 458 Spyder F1 Roadster sold for £159,500 and a 2014 64 Porsche 911 Turbo S (991) PDK at 8,000 miles sold for £126,500
The biggest selling model over £100,000 was the Audi R8 610 Quattro Plus S-T, with 20 examples sold, for a top value of £111,000.
The specialist used car retailers in the Motor Trader Top 50 Independent Dealers have performed strongly. Tom Hartley jnr’s latest turnover is £66.7m with pre-tax profits of £5.6m, giving it a return on sales of 8.4%.
Another specialist used car dealer Portland had turnover of £17.5m with pre-tax profits of £1.4m, giving it a return on sales of 7.8%.
Last year supercar retailer Romans International sold a Maserati MC12 and a pair of hybrid Ferrari LaFerraris with all three of those supercars approaching prices of £3m each.
Stuart Pearson, managing director UK remarketing at BCA said there was “exceptional interest” for some of the rarer supercars that attracted buyers across the UK and mainland Europe.
He said there was “plenty of confidence” from buyers to purchase top end vehicles. About 65% of high value cars were purchased by Live Online bidders, with the balance being brought by in-lane buyers. Sold price outperformed price guide expectations by up to 18%.
