Ben announces major Lynwood redevlopment

Ben, the automotive industry’s charity, has unveiled plans for a major redevelopment of its Lynwood Care Centre in Sunninghill, near Ascot.

The charity has a secured bank loan to cover the project with work already under way on the construction of a 93-bed care centre on a plot within its 20-acre grounds.

The project is being funded by the next phase which will see the construction of a retirement community of 69 apartments and nine cottages – on the site currently occupied by Ben’s 60 year old care centre – which will be sold on a leasehold basis. Further apartments are also planned to follow.

Ben said the redevelopment has been prompted by the projected rise in the UK population, which the charity said will result in the number of people aged over 65 rising by 51% over the next 20 years.

“This project will deliver a world class care facility which will ensure those connected to the industry, or their immediate dependents, have access to care of  the highest quality both in the short and long term,” said
Ben CEO David Main.
“Sales of the apartments and cottages will allow us to repay the funding for the construction of the new care centre and to help fund future service developments in a way that would not have been possible without such an innovative approach.”
