Motor industry charity BEN has called on the trade to provide support in the coming year.
In its just-published Annual Review of 2010, chief executive David Main said last year the charity made further progress towards securing its finances while also investing in programmes to extend its services and raise awareness of BEN.
“With the concern that the Government’s spending cuts will affect the most vulnerable in our society we all need to pull together to ensure that no-one in our community is unaware of the help we provide or is afraid or reluctant to make that first call,” said Main.
In May last year, BEN launched new schemes, making it easy for dealerships and finance companies to support the charity with donations related to the number of cars processed through auction houses.
The initiatives generated £120,000 of new income for BEN last year and this is forecast to grow to £250,000 in the current financial year.
BEN called for support to:
- Spread awareness of the charity at all levels
- Help an increasingly large group of people
- Develop additional services, such as its welfare web portal (BENhelp)
- Plug the growing gap between cost of care and government funding
- Maintain care facilities
