BMW aims to increase used car sales volumes across its network with a new dealer incentive programme which will reward dealers with bonuses for each unit they sell.
Used car sales scheme
The bonus package will see dealers rewarded with £300 on sales of cars up to two years old and £600 for older models.
According to Jim O’Donnell, UK managing director, the initiative will transform the fortunes of many sites in the 158-strong UK network.
He claimed the used car scheme will give BMW an advantage over its key rivals in the prestige sector.
“While Audi and Mercedes-Benz concentrate on boosting the sales of new cars, we encourage our dealers to do all they can to be active in the used sector.”
“This programme is starting to pay dividends. This side of the business is set to make a big contribution to revenue this year,” said O’Donnell.
I believe we will end 2007 at least 30,000 new units ahead of Audi and Mercedes-Benz, O’Donnell
As BMW prepares its network for the new 3 Series convertible range, O’Donnell predicted that an all-time record of 125,000 new BMW models would be sold in the UK this year – further swelling used car forecourts over the next three to four years.“With a total of 11 new and revised models to launch this year our dealers are set for very good times and I believe we will end 2007 at least 30,000 new units ahead of Audi and
Mercedes-Benz to continue our position as the UK’s best-selling premium brand,” said O’Donnell.“But a lot of this success will be down to the policy to incentivise used-car sales. This is still unique in the sector and is playing a key role in our success.”
