Convertible car values rise at auction

The traditional rise in convertible values at auction was apparent at Manheim last weekend with cars selling for as much as 133 per cent of Cap clean.

The Lex Autolease sale at Manheim Auctions, Bruntingthorpe saw 250 convertibles on sale out of a total field of 350 vehicles offered on the day. The Mazda MX-5 attracted the liveliest bidding and achieved the highest CAP Clean values.

The top five performers were:

  • 07 plate Mazda MX-5 on 22,900 miles sold for £10,000 (133 per cent CAP Clean)
  • 07 plate Mazda MX-5 on 24,910 miles sold for £8,800 (126 per cent CAP Clean)
  • 57 plate Mazda MX-5 on 33,361 miles sold for £8,200 (124 per cent CAP Clean)
  • 07 plate Peugeot 206 on 28,990 miles sold for £5,450 (123 per cent CAP Clean)
  • 06 plate MINI One on 54,320 miles sold for £6,850 (121 per cent CAP Clean).

In March Motor Trader reported that used values for convertibles are expected to rise over the next couple of months as buyers generate forecourt demand in the weeks leading up to summer.

According to Glass’s convertibles typically retain more of their original value than other segments.

Mainstream models, such as the Peugeot 207 CC or Mazda MX-5,  and premium models, including the BMW 3-Series or Audi A4, hold onto an average of 42 percent and 45 percent respectively after three years.
