Smart phones are becoming of increasing importance for car dealers’ business.
Web presence
Most dealers will have some form of web presence now but many in the industry have yet to consider the growing mobile search market and the importance of creating web pages designed for mobile browsing,” said Garry Hobson, chief executive of motors.co.uk.
“Existing websites often won’t display properly on a mobile device leading to missed sales opportunities and lost customers,” he said.
“In addition Google uses a separate search engine index for mobile content and because there are less mobile sites around, these will be able to achieve much higher rankings than traditional websites.”
Tough times
Hobson said in tough economic times dealers should be thinking of every way possible to create a point of difference from their competitors and to capture new customers.
“Mobile internet use is only set to increase and offers a new and potentially lucrative market for dealers large and small,” he added.
Motors.co.uk recently conducted detailed research into the buying habits of customers who use mobile devices to access the internet. It found 84 per cent of people said they would visit the traditional desktop version of a website if they had first visited the mobile version.
Visitors to motors.co.uk from mobile devices increased 96 per cent over the past year.
Then motors.co.uk app iPhone app has had over 72,000 downloads since it was released in Feb 2010.
