FORD RANGER MAKES ITS MARK AT BCA

Ford and BCA have combined to successfully launch the new Ranger into the used vehicle arena.

The versatile pick-up made a highly successful auction debut in a Ford Closed sale at BCA Nottingham on 6 February.

Nearly 100 buyers descended on the Nottingham centre to bid on 79 commercial vehicles from across the Ford range, with eight examples of the new Ranger on offer. Bidding was fast and furious throughout the sale, which recorded a 100% conversion and a turnover of just under £1 million. The new 06-registered Rangers were the stars of the show, however, and made a strong debut, achieving 75% of current list at an average of 2,000 miles.

Also included in the entry were 30 new model Transits, which built on the extremely successful debut made at BCA Nottingham in December. Again, interest was exceptional. Top price paid for a SWB model was £11,600, which was achieved by a 260 85PS van at 2,000 miles. In LWB format, £17,000 was paid for a 2006 06 New Transit 350 100PS.

Even with the improved availability of New Transit, demand on the outgoing model remains as firm as ever with a 2005 55 Transit 17seat minibus making £17,100 at 3,000 miles. Fiesta hatchback vans also performed well, selling for up to £6,900 at 5,000 miles. Connect is now a well-established favourite with buyers and a top price of £9,100 was paid for 2006 06 Connect 230 LWB van at 5,000 miles.

Ford’s Remarketing Manager, Paul Bolton commented “The Ranger made a strong used market debut, even outperforming our own high expectations. With demand being seen across the Ford range of commercial vehicles, this sale established notable price benchmarks for Fiesta, Transit and Connect.”

George Alexander from Glass’s Guide commented “This was an especially well supported event where dealers were keen to acquire the best late year stock available within their franchise. A major part of the success enjoyed at this lively BCA event came courtesy of the first half dozen new Rangers to appear which created a real buzz. Here, bidding was around £2,000 per lot above the level that might have been expected for the comparable old-shape pick-up.”

Duncan Ward, BCA’s UK Business Development Manager – Commercial Vehicles added “There was exceptional interest in the launch of the Ford Ranger and the model has certainly laid down a marker in this highly competitive sector.”
