Group 1 CEO Earl J Hesterberg is geared up for expansion to capitalise on the pent-up demand generated by the pandemic and Brexit.
In July the company bought Robinsons Motor Group in East Anglia for an undisclosed sum.
Robinsons has nine dealerships representing Audi, Skoda, Seat, VW, Citroen and DS with locations in Norwich, Peterborough, Lowestoft and Ipswich.
At Group 1’s first half results Hesterberg said: “We believe this is an excellent time to expand our UK business. Pent-up vehicle demand resulting from both Brexit and the pandemic should drive higher sales in the next several years.”
Group 1 in the UK reported first half revenues up 46.4% to $1.25bn (£890m).
The highlight was retail used car sales, which surged 45.9% to 17,606 units while new car sales rose 9.4% to 13,935.
Gross profit rose 63.8% to $154.4m.
Worldwide, Group 1 reported record second quarter revenues, up 73.6% to $3.7bn. Total gross profit increased 84.3% to $661.3m
