James Brearley appointed managing director of Lookers

James Brearley has been appointed managing director of Lookers Motor Group. He moves to Lookers following a year-long stint as chief operating officer with Peter Vardy.

Before that he was head of Inchcape’s UK retail business. He was appointed CEO, Inchcape UK in January 2017 with the aim of implementing a five-year plan focused on overhauling the business operating structure, digitalising the customer journey, and maximising the used car opportunity.

Before that he was managing director of Stratstone, Pendragon’s premium car division.

Brearley is effectively filling the position vacated by Mark Raban who left the company shortly after it as bought by Alpha Auto Group.

AAG describes itself as a leading operator and consolidator of car dealerships with 15 large scale new vehicle dealerships across Canada and the United States. It is one of the largest car retailers in Canada.

Kuldeep Billan, founder and executive Chairman Of AAG, said the opportunity to buy Lookers was “compelling.” Since the deal went through there have been significant job cuts at the company. Billan founded AAG in 2014 and has held numerous roles within the financial industry.
