Lookers debuts with Ford in Sheffield

Lookers will be selling Ford cars in Sheffield after its takeover of parts of the collapsed Dixons group.

In a statement, Lookers, number five in the Motor Trader Top 200, said it had acquired “certain assets” of the defunct Dixons operation, and the Sheffield takeover gives it an additional marque to sell.

“The introduction of Ford into our portfolio complements our existing mix of volume and prestige brands,” said Lookers chief executive Ken Surgenor.

He told Motor Trader that not representing Ford had been “disappointing” for the 28-make strong dealer group.

“We look forward to working with them to expand our representation of the Ford brand.”

The company will sell a mix of Ford cars and light vans and is promising to “re-employ a significant number of the original dealership staff.”

Vehicles will again be sold from “a prominent four acre site,” which Dixons rented.

Meanwhile, Lookers’ Northern Ireland operation Charles Hurst has been fined £300 by Trading Standards officials for selling an ex-demonstration Renault Clio that was six months older than claimed, according to as BBC news report. Charles Hurst blamed computer error. This is the second time in just over a month Trading Standards has prosecuted the company.
