MART is the first art museum in Italy to dedicate a major exhibition to this theme, with Mitomacchina focussing on major innovations in aesthetics and technology. Its starting point is the first car ever to be produced with an internal combustion engine – the Benz Dreirad of 1886 – and continues to the present day and beyond.
For Marangoni, its title sponsorship and support of Mitomacchina endorsed the synergy between the continuing evolution of the car and the huge development in tyre technology over the past 50 years. Today, the Marangoni Group remains one of the few companies worldwide whose activities embrace every aspect of the tyre life cycle. From technology led design and manufacture for passenger cars and industrial and commercial vehicles, through to tyre retreading and ultimately the generation of clean energy through non-polluting thermal processing system that converts tyres that can no longer be retreaded into electric power, Marangoni continues at the forefront of progress, with a total commitment to green issues. At the opening of the exhibition, Mario Marangoni, President of the Marangoni Group emphasised this responsibility saying, “For over 50 years our Group has believed in tyres and has educated its people and developed new technologies to be able to handle every aspect of a tyre’s life cycle.”
The cars on view at MART represented the cream of the great European and American manufacturers. They included Alfa Romeo, BMW, Bugatti, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Citroën, Ferrari, Fiat, Ford, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Lancia, Lotus, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, MG, Mini, Nissan, Pagani, Peugeot, Porsche, Renault, Rolls-Royce, Saab, Smart, Tatra and Volkswagen. Also on display were masterpieces of long-gone manufacturers including Cisitalia, Jamais Contente, Hanomag, Iso Rivolta, Isotta Fraschini, Messerschmitt, NSU, Studebaker, Trabant and Voisin.
The international focus of the exhibition has been immense and Marangoni invited key publications from the UK and European classic car press to preview the exhibition. The stunning nature of the exhibition and the unique opportunity to see such design icons gathered together in the same location has resulted in substantial editorial features and photography, and has further endorsed Marangoni’s commitment both to the industry and the historic vehicle sector.
