MG has highest proportion of EV owners

MG has the highest proportion of EV owners of any car brands offering ICE engines in their model mix, according to JudgeService.

The research involved 5,700 consumers and found EVs represent 41% of MG ownership. 46% of the brand’s customers have petrol models.

Neil Addley, MD of JudgeService, said: “With carmakers focussed on hitting their ZEV Mandate obligations for new car sales, rather than pay hefty fines, our research shines a light on the reality of EV ownership among the legacy OEM brands.

“The Top 10 reveals the manufacturers with the biggest proportion of EV owners at an important time for the sector as we move closer to an all-out ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel models.

“Our findings show MG has risen to the challenge. Its mission to champion affordable EV ownership is clearly resonating with buyers, enabling it to punch above its weight with four in 10 owners choosing electric powertrains, an extraordinary achievement for a challenger brand.”

Jaguar was in second place at 24%, with an even split between its petrol and diesel ownership, each accounting for 33%, followed by Dacia (17%), Kia (15%) and Renault (14%).

Nissan, who initially led the all-electric charge with the Leaf, only mustered 10%, the same as Fiat. EV ownership for Hyundai and Seat was 9%, with Skoda in tenth place at 8%.
