Mirka launch a new abrasive product

As a result, they took the company’s advanced ‘net’ sanding technology and used it to create a new abrasive product, called Autonet, which has performance characteristics specifically tuned to the unique requirements of the automotive refinish industry; aggressive first cut, greater productivity, dust-free environment and affordability.

Its secret is a patented net construction that revolutionises the sanding process. Comprising a dense network of polyamide fabric threads onto which the abrasive grit is bonded, Autonet features an open weave structure that ensures no dust particle is more than 0.5mm from a dust extraction hole. The net result is phenomenal dust extraction across the entire abrasive surface and virtually dust-free sanding. Fully compatible with all new paint technology, Mirka claims its new product provides everything an operator needs in terms of a fast, efficient and cost effective surface finishing system, particularly when compared with traditional paper products.

While based on the award winning Abranet product, Autonet features thicker, heavier fibres coated with extra abrasive grit which give it exceptional cutting performance while reducing edge wear in finer grits. These benefits enable it to achieve a top quality surface finish far quicker than with conventional products: the time spent on each job is cut, labour costs are reduced and profitability is increased.

Dust removal is so efficient that particle contamination in the workplace is minimised and this contributes to a healthier environment. Clogging and pilling, the main causes of surface defects, are virtually eliminated. Moreover, since the work surface is kept dust free, Autonet retains its product lifespan for longer, resulting in fewer abrasives being needed per job compared with conventional paper products. Finishing technicians also get greater visual control over what is happening at the sanding surface which helps avoids problems such as over sanding.
