Welcome to the Motor Trader World Cup Predictor Game (which we may well abbreviate to MTWCPG from now on…)

The World Cup may only be a few days old, but there has already been enough drama, controversy, excitement and disappointment to keep us all entertained, if not slightly stressed.

The story so far…

We began on Friday with the hosts scoring the first goal of the World Cup and ultimately securing an impressive draw with Mexico.

France left us somewhat underwhelmed as Uruguay had the dubious honour of having the first player sent off at the tournament.

South Korea yet again punched above their weight (as they did back in 2002) by stunning Greece, while Argentina looked good for their victory over Nigeria.

England had the perfect start (unless you were watching ITV in HD…) with our new captain Gerrard scoring early on. Enough said about English goalkeepers…

Elsewhere, Ghana claimed the first African victory of the World Cup and the Germans impressed as they thumped the Aussies, where Cahill was unlucky to be given his marching orders.

Meanwhile the holders Italy were held to a draw by a resolute Paraguay. So far there have been 18 goals, 4 red cards and an awful lot of vuvuzelas sold. Still a long way to go…

MTWCPG

We have your forms and the trend amongst you indicates a Spain win with England reaching the Semis.

40% of you have picked Spain to win the cup outright, with 21% opting for Brazil or England to lift the trophy. Argentina and Holland are the next most popular winners, with Germany, Italy and Portugal getting a paltry 1% each. No one picked France…

A whopping 57% of you optimists predict that England will get as far as the Semi Finals before being knocked out.

We will post the latest leaderboard here on Monday 28th of June once the Group Stage has been completed.
