The 2013 Motor Trader Top 200 reveals a sector moving from recovery to growth mode.
The report, the biggest of its kind, provides a unique snapshot of the franchised sector by collating the most recent year-end results from the country’s biggest dealer groups.
Pendragon, the largest dealer group achieved increased sales of £3.6bn (2012: £3.4bn), accounting for nearly 8% of the total Motor Trader Top 200 combined turnover of £46.4bn.
Second placed Sytner Group increased its turnover to £3bn (£2.5bn) following the January 2012 acquisition of the Northern Ireland-based Agnew Group, representing primarily premium German franchises.
Family-owned Arnold Clark increased turnover to £2.48bn (£2.25bn) to retain its third place.
While the rankings of the top five groups are unchanged this year, Mercedes-Benz Retail, the biggest factory-owned group, has risen from seventh to sixth place, swapping positions with Jardine and JCT 600 enters the top 10 at number 10.
The projected pre-tax profits of the combined Motor Trader Top 200 in the 2013 survey totalled £561m.
