New Ford Mondeo RVs outperform latest VW Passat

Ford_Mondeo_2014_620Residual values of the new generation Ford Mondeo will outperform the new generation Volkswagen Passat as well as current versions of the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4, according to CAP Gold Book.

CAP also expects the new Mondeo, which has just entered UK showrooms, to be worth £1,750 more, after three years, than the outgoing model; the biggest uplift any version of the Mondeo has ever had over its predecessor.

CAP’s figure is greater than Ford’s estimate of a £1,200 uplift which it believed it could achieve by reducing the vehicle’s exposure to daily rental, which will increase its desirability in the company car sector.

According CAP a diesel Mondeo 2.0 TDCi ECOnetic Zetec will hold onto 42.7% of its new list price, after three years and 30,000 miles, compared with 41.6% for a Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI Bluemotion Tech Executive. While the Audi A4 2.0 TDIe SE will return 38.3% and the BMW 3 Series 318d SE 36.8%.

“The main reasons behind the size of the new model premium are a combination of the significant change in exterior appearance, advanced technology and connectivity,” said Dylan Setterfield, CAP’s senior forecasting editor.

“The cabin is more driver-focused with a premium fit and finish, with soft-touch plastics and fabrics on the dash and doors. Also Ford has decreased its levels of short cycle business in recent years.”

Stronger RVs will also enable Ford dealers to offer more competitive point of sale finance deals for both retail and fleet customers. This will see a 1.6-litre 115PS diesel Zetec available on the Ford Options PCP scheme at £299 a month for three years, while company car drivers on the Ford Lease contract hire can finance a 2.0-litre 150PS diesel Titanium for just £229 a month. Ford is expecting its lease option, which has already increased 124% across its ranges in the year to date, to grow further in 2015.
