Carwow is predicting a surge in new and used sales activity this summer following the introduction of new LEZs in Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh from 1 June as consumers take steps to replace non-compliant cars.
Carwow’s research found 30% of Scottish motorists are not sure they understand the new Low Emission Zone (LEZ) rules while 45% do not know where the current zones are operating. 24% are not sure if their vehicle is LEZ compliant.
Within the new LEZs, 29% of drivers in Dundee are not sure if they know how LEZs work, (33% in Edinburgh and 34% in Aberdeen). 44% of drivers in Aberdeen, 42% in Dundee and 50% in Edinburgh are not sure where the current zones are. 25% of drivers across all three cities do not know if their car is LEZ compliant.
Sally Foote, CCO, Sell My Car, at Carwow, said: “LEZ expansion can unlock fresh opportunities for Scottish retailers.
“We’re seeing that non-compliant cars are still selling successfully in our trade auctions, as retailers in regions that are not affected by these zones are well aware that there is still high demand for these vehicles from drivers seeking affordable and fuel-efficient used cars.
“Our transport service and low buyers fees mean it’s hassle-free and cost-effective for retailers to purchase and have stock delivered anywhere nationwide.
“For those retailers based in areas with zones in place, or impending ones, our data shows that the majority of car sellers are now looking to replace their vehicle, and potentially make the switch to an alternatively fuelled car.”
52% support of LEZ and think EVs are the future, 53% think now is not the time to introduce new LEZ or expand current zones. 54% would like to own an EV in the future while 61% would switch now if they could afford to.
