Motor Trader rounds-up the stars of the Paris Motor Show and highlights the next generation of new cars heading for UK dealerships.
Mazda MX-5
One of the most eagerly awaited Paris debuts was the fourth generation Mazda MX-5, the latest edition of the best-selling two-seater roadster in history. The rear wheel drive model is lower, wider and lighter than before, arguably making it the sportiest ever as it combines SkyActiv technology with the line’s timeless charm. UK sales start in early 2015. Joint venture partners Fiat will produce an Abarth version.
Ford S-Max
Built on the same platform as this year’s forthcoming Mondeo, the all-new S-Max boasts space for seven to travel in style, with what Ford claims will be the agility and driving pleasure of a smaller car. Sales start is summer 2015.
Volkswagen Passat
Just as the D-segment looked as if it had run its course comes the all-new Passat, which goes head-to-head with new Mondeo. Expect up-market flourishes and luxury features. Estate and plug-in hybrid versions were also revealed. UK sales start before the end of the year, with first deliveries in early 2015.
Kia Sorento
The all-new Kia Sorento SUV blends style, practicality and technology and builds on the success of the outgoing model. Now in its third generation, the latest model is more spacious than before with increased length and width but reduced height. Sales start in early 2015.
Land Rover Discovery Sport
The Freelander replacement marks the establishment of the new Discovery sub-brand which will eventually feature at least three models. Sharing mechanicals with the Range Rover Evoque, the Sport features a 5+2 seating configuration in a footprint no larger than a typical five-seater compact premium SUV. Sales start next year.
Renault Espace
A new take on the original European MPV has a low-line SUV crossover stance, which attracted plenty of attention at Paris. While the old model was culled in the UK, Renault has hinted that the UK would be considered if there is sufficient interest.
