Pentagon owners Motus Group UK posts PBT increase to June 2022

Motus Group UK, owners of Pentagon Motor Group, has announced a PBT to June 2022 of £17.2m (2021: £10.7m).

However, it saw a decline in turnover to £1.12bln from £1.52bln in 2021.

The Group said: “Although the macro economic environment is weakening, the business has performed in-line with expectations.

“Vehicle supply remained constrained in the year in which there was strong consumer demand.

“The impact on revenues resulting from reduced vehicle sale volumes was counterbalanced by significant increases in vehicle prices. Furthermore, the business experienced an increase in aftersales revenue.

“Increasing inflationary pressure coupled with staff shortages has increased operating expenses and staffing costs. Despite these challenges, the business achieved strong performance for the year.

“However, higher inflation and increasing interest rates is showing signs of dampening consumer demand in the short term.”

Pentagon Group recently has started a three-month trial of closing all it branches on Sundays, moving the group rota to a five-day cycle.

Pentagon will continue to have its digital presence for live chat and online ordering throughout Sundays, to support the branches now closing on that day.

It also has a call centre that handles all incoming sales and aftersales calls, and this will continue to be manned fully for Sunday hours.

Through that contact centre, the company will be running a daily monitoring programme to capture and analyse comment from customers.

Pentagon said Sunday opening was not an optimum use of time as traffic was relatively low compared to other days. Closure on Sunday would also help reduce energy costs.
