Porsche Retail Group delivered the highest profit per employee in the just published Motor Trader Top 200 Dealer Groups, sponsored by AXA Motor Trade.
The factory owned dealer group saw each employee deliver an average £76,755 per annum, according to the survey.
In second place was CEM Day, which saw employees generate £57,626 per annum followed by Cambria Automobiles which delivered £42,369 per employee.
Thames Motor Group was in fourth slot, generating £41,790 per employee followed by Currie Motors on £39,098 per employee.
“The top 25 for profit per employee returned results ranging from nearly twice the straight average across the whole MT Top 200 to over five times the average,” said MT Top 200 researcher Chris Oakham.
“For the eighth year running, Porsche Retail Group (39) with £76,755 pre-tax profit per employee heads up this sub-table.
“The total number of staff employed by the MT Top 200 is up this year at 134,542 after three years of decline.
“Combined with a 12% fall in total pre-tax profits for the whole MT Top 200 to £1.8bn, the straight average pre-tax profit per employee is down from £16,183 last year to £13,806,” he said.
The Motor Trader Top 200 Franchised Dealer Groups continues to grow.
Total turnover is £81.3bn compared to £75.1bn in the 2023 survey. Profitability has fallen to £1.8bn from £2.048bn last time.
Return on sales – the straight average pre-tax profit as a percentage of sales – has fallen to 2.25% compared to 2.87% last time.
And the straight average pre-tax profits per employee has fallen to £13,806 from £16,183 in the 2023 survey.
