Prius tops consumer poll

With environmental issues increasingly dominating the motor industry car owners have nominated the hybrid Toyota Prius as the joint winner in a customer satisfaction survey.

In the J D Power UK Car Customer Satisfaction Index Study the Prius tied with the Lexus IS at the top of the table.

The report, compiled in association with WhatCar?, revealed that Prius owners were impressed by ownership costs, day-to-day operating costs, vehicle quality, vehicle appeal and dealer service.

The top 10 model rankings were dominated by Japanese models from Toyota, Honda and Lexus, although Skoda gatecrashed the party with the Octavia and Fabia ranking fifth and seventh overall.

In the top 20 brand rankings Lexus came out on top for the seventh consecutive year. Mercedes-Benz, although out of the top 10, was the most improved nameplate in 2007.

Frank Parisi, director of European automotive research at J.D. Power and Associates, said: β€œIt is notable to see a hybrid car perform so well, and the increasing popularity amongst UK consumers for the green credentials of this car seems to be matched by levels of ownership satisfaction.”

The study was based on the evaluations of more than 18,000 UK car owners after an average of two years of ownership.
