The RAC has signed up 2,700 independent and franchised garages to its online servicing, repair and MOT price comparison site. Garages pay 10% commission for work generated through the website.
It has contacted 10,000 garages and the response rate has been split equally between franchised and independent dealers.
Douglas Rotberg, CEO of The Motorist’s Organisation, the RAC’s partner for the project, said: “Our aim over the coming year is to consolidate the involvement of garages of all kinds.
“We have been in contact with around 10,000 suitable garages and believe the commercial model will prove to be extremely appealing.”
RAC Garage Compare helps users to compare prices and service standards from independent and franchised garages.
Consumers enter their postcode, registration number and details for the kind of services they require from a menu, choosing from three pre-defined levels of servicing with the option of an MOT.
They then book online, receiving a confirmation and are encouraged to rate the garage after use.
For garages, the new site provides free listings, potential new customers and the opportunity to build their reputation through ratings.
