The UK’s most reliable car brand is Mini and the least reliable is MG, according to new research from What Car?
This is based on feedback from 29,967 car owners who filled in the 2024 What Car? Reliability Survey, conducted in association with MotorEasy. The data covered 31 brands and 199 different models.
With a brand reliability rating of 98.3%, Mini toppled previous-champion Lexus from the top spot.
All five Mini models reported on in the survey performed well, with the 2017-2024 Mini Countryman small SUV leading the way with a reliability rating of 99.7%, and the Mini Convertible not far behind on 99.2%.
The recently-replaced Mini Electric, which was built in Britain, was the best performing electric car, and the Tesla Model Y the highest scoring electric SUV.
Seven-time champion, Lexus, was just 0.4% behind Mini. The Lexus ES claimed the top spot in the executive car class with a score of 99.3%, while the 2014-2021 Lexus NX was the best family SUV and the 2016-2022 Lexus RX the top-performing luxury car.
The Lexus NX and Toyota Aygo X were also the only models to achieve a full 100% reliability rating.
MG was the least propped up the brand reliability table, receiving the lowest score of 76.9%. The survey found many MG owners complained their cars suffered a high number of faults and repairs were slow; some also cited high repair bills.
