The chief executive of the Scottish Motor Trade Association Sandy Burgess is stepping down from his position.
Burgess will remain with the trade body while a replacement is sought. The incumbent will come on board by the end of the year and Burgess will remain in place until that time.
The number director will head up a body created in 1903 representing primarily carmakers but this changed over time and it now represents dealer SMR and sales groups.
Burgess has worked in the motor sector for over 50 years, starting as an apprentice and building used car businesses.
He received the IMI’s Contribution to the Motor Industry Award in 2011, an award created to honour individuals for their hard work and commitment to the sector.
“Going forward I will not be leaving the industry completely as I have plans to get more involved in my own businesses which include a small used car operation as well as a commercial property business and a travel agency.
Iin addition to these I plan to launch a consultancy business focusing on the challenges and opportunities that exist for the SME automotive sector here in Scotland so plenty to keep me busy!
