The 2013 Motor Trader Top 50 Independent Car Dealers in the UK are now generating a combined turnover of £2.1bn.
Derby-based Motorpoint is the number one independent in the UK with turnover of £367m in the year to March 2013, generating unit sales of 28,200.
The supermarket, which has six outlets, features in the Motor Trader Top 50 Independent Dealers published in the October issue of Motor Trader.
Motorpoint was followed in second place by London-based Car Giant, which saw turnover of £295m and unit sales of 40,822.
Car Shop, which is based in Northampton, saw turnover of £152.1m with estimated car sales of 23,800.
Wakefield-based Car People was in fourth slot with turnover of £132.5m and Carcraft (part of the UK Car Group) was in fifth position with sales of £124.7m.
Overall, the survey, carried out by Trend Tracker, showed the used car sector recovering after four years of declining sales and strangled supply of retail-ready cars.
Trend Tracker estimates that there are 4,550 independent used car dealers in the UK.
A total of 6.74 million used cars were sold in 2012, a 10-year low.
