The Drivers and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has decided that vehicle recalls will now appear on MOT test certificates.
The move was welcomed by the National Franchised Dealers Association which said the vehicle recall system is an “essential safety mechanism” for motorists to return their car to their dealership to have warranty recalls repaired free of charge to adhere to regulations.
It added that for franchised dealers, this is a crucial opportunity to re-establish contact and form new business relationships with customer vehicles that may have changed ownership since the car was first purchased.
NFDA CEO Sue Robinson said: “The new MOT recall policy is welcomed by the NFDA and is something that we have called for inclusion in MOTs for many years.
“It will be a significant boost for motorists that have missed their free safety repairs due to frequent changes to registered keeper data on DVLA files, but also potential buyers of used car vehicles that would like to check a vehicle has an up-to-date safety record.
“Most importantly, for franchised dealers this is a crucial opportunity to establish new business relationships and future potential buyers through the high quality of customer service our members provide and leaving a positive lasting impression.”
