Vertu realigns partnership with Barnsley FC following Burrows acquisition

A realigned partnership between Vertu and Barnsley FC will see Vertu sponsor the team’s training kit and the dugout at Oakwell, and have branding across pitch side advertising boards as well as the stadium scoreboard.

Barnsley joins an expansive list of sporting clubs to have ties with Vertu, which includes Birmingham City, Burnley, Plymouth Argyle and Sunderland, as well as Yorkshire County Cricket Club.

Robert Forrester, Chief Executive of Vertu, said: “Following our acquisition of Burrows, we are delighted to now add Barnsley FC to our extensive list of sports partners.

“Barnsley has a key role to play in the local community, and we look forward to not only supporting the team on the pitch, but also engaging with supporters and doing our part to help the Club with its work in the local area.”

Vertu added nine dealerships in Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire to its portfolio following the acquisition of Burrows, including two sites within Barnsley – the Toyota dealership on Barugh Green Road and the Kia site on Pontefract Road.

The two dealerships have held a long relationship with Barnsley FC that started in 2015, with a multi-year agreement with the Club taking effect in 2023.

George Johnston, Barnsley FC Partnerships account manager, said: “Firstly, we would like to thank Burrows Motor Company for their continued support over the last ten years.

“The work that we have done together at the Club and in the local community allows us to build on an already strong partnership and take it to new heights following the exciting acquisition by Vertu.

“We are now delighted to be working with Vertu as a partner of Barnsley Football Club. As an award-winning automotive retailer with a widely recognised brand across football and sport, we look forward to engaging supporters even further and providing special experiences within the local Barnsley community through our collaboration.”
