Daksh Gupta, the former CEO of Marshall Motor Group, is joining Huws Gray building merchants in January as the company group chief executive officer..
The announcement on LinkedIn puts to an end speculation on where Gupta would reappear and in what role.
Gupta left Marshall when it was acquired by Constellation and was on gardening leave for an extended period.
Gupta said on LinkedIn: “Since leaving my former role, I have been offered a number of exciting CEO roles, inside and outside automotive but I’ve been very selective about what I wanted to do and with who.
“Some people will be surprised I chose to switch sectors having had a reasonably successful and long career in automotive.
“However, my decision was easy based on the people I met, the company culture, long term track record, future prospects and ambition for the group.
“Automotive will always have a special place in my heart as I love the sector, especially the people who I have worked with as colleagues or as business partners over the years.
“I will still be associated with the sector as I continue my work with my friends at Ford Motor Company in Europe where I work with the team on their agency strategy.
“I will also remain vice president of the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) and Ben Automotive Industry Charity.”
